Patna: The state is all set to host the All-India Presiding Officers' Conference (AIPOC) here on Jan 20 and Jan 21 after a gap of 43 years.
Addressing a press conference, state assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav said on Monday that the last time
Bihar hosted this prestigious conference was in 1982 when Radhanandan Jha was the Speaker.
"Before this, the state hosted this conference on Jan 6 and Jan 7, 1964, when Lakshmi Narayan Sudhanshu was the Speaker of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha. This is the third time that Bihar has got an opportunity to host this conference. This time, Bihar got the opportunity after a gap of 43 years. The Patna conference will be the 85th session of the AIPOC," Yadav said.
He also informed that the first session of the AIPOC was held in 1921 in Shimla. The last 84th AIPOC was organised on the Maharashtra legislature premises, Mumbai, on Jan 27 and Jan 28, 2024. He said the 82nd AIPOC, which was organised on the completion of 100 years of the first AIPOC session, was once again held in Shimla in Nov 2021.
Yadav also said that the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the presiding officer of the Rajya Sabha, the Speaker and deputy speaker of all assemblies, and the chairperson and deputy chairperson of all legislative councils from across the country attend the conference, which is jointly organised by the Lok Sabha and the legislative body of the host state. "The Lok Sabha Speaker is the ex-officio chairperson of this conference," he said.
"The inaugural session of the 85th AIPOC will be held on Jan 20 in the Central Hall of the Vidhan Sabha. All programmes related to the two-day conference will be held on the Bihar legislature premises," he said, adding, "The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate the Patna conference."
"So far, altogether 264 guests, 54 of them presiding officers, have confirmed their participation in the Patna conference. The presiding officers of only two states — Delhi and Goa — have expressed their inability to attend the Patna conference," Yadav said.
"Altogether 60 officials from the Lok Sabha and seven from the Rajya Sabha are also arriving. Besides, 108 officers from different assemblies and legislative councils are also arriving," he said. "Altogether 227 rooms of the city's top four hotels have been booked for the guests, while a total of 261 rooms have been kept on hold. So far, altogether 145 vehicles have been booked for the transportation of the guests, while a total of 286 vehicles have been kept on hold," said Yadav, who was flanked by the state legislative council chairperson Awadhesh Narain Singh and the deputy speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav at the press conference.
