Manipur unrest: Centre sending over 10,000 additional CAPF troops, violence has claimed 258 lives since May 2023

The Union home minister will deploy approximately 90 companies which means over 10,000 additional CAPF troops amid the violence and killings in Manipur.
While addressing a presser, Kuldiep Singh, security advisor of Manipur government said that a meeting was held with the Army, police, CRPF, BSF, ITBP officials and reviewed the situation.
"Today, we had a security review meeting, and in this meeting, we reviewed the security of all the districts and Imphal city. During the meeting, we have Army, police, CRPF, BSF, ITBP officials were present. Whatever problems come up, we are all together... " Singh said.

"We discussed the issues with DCs and SPs of all districts. You have known by now that we are getting approximately 90 companies of extra force deployment, over and above which was the actual deployment here... 198 companies were here and 70 more companies are coming, and a sizeable portion of that has already reached Imphal," he added.
He also informed that till now 258 people have lost their lives since May last year, the state government's Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh said on Friday.

On the investigations, Kuldiep Singh said that those three cases are being investigated and have been handed over to NIA. NIA is now investigating the cases and they will come up with further developments.

The funeral ceremonies for nine Meitei community members, including three women and three children, were conducted under strict security measures in Manipur's Jiribam district on Friday. Large crowds gathered along the roadside to pay their respects as the bodies were transported from Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam's Cachar district.
Following post-mortem examinations at SMCH, the bodies were returned after the Joint Action Committee agreed to the state government's decision to transfer the investigation to the NIA. The committee was established following the deaths of these nine individuals.
On November 11, several individuals, including three women and three children, disappeared following an armed confrontation between security forces and Kuk-Zo militants.
The clash occurred after the armed individuals allegedly launched an assault on the Borobekra police station and an adjacent CRPF camp, resulting in the deaths of 10 suspected militants.
The missing individuals, who were reportedly taken by the retreating militants, had been staying in a relief facility within the police station premises.
The following day, authorities discovered the burnt remains of two elderly men amongst the ruins of destroyed buildings and shops at the nearby Jakuradhor market.

The fresh violence erupted in Manipur recently after the discovery of six bodies, including a 25-year-old woman and her two young children, a 31-year-old woman and her daughter, and a 60-year-old woman.
They were allegedly abducted by Kuki militants. The bodies have been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital in Assam for autopsy.
Protesters accused the ministers and MLAs of failing to curb the escalating violence. They also opposed the re-imposition of AFSPA in several areas.Residences of BJP legislators, including CM Biren Singh's son-in-law Rajkumar Imo Singh, Raghumani Singh, and Sapam Kunjakeswor, were attacked. Independent MLA Sapam Nishikanta's house was also targeted.
Protesters stormed the homes of health minister Sapam Ranjan and consumer affairs minister L Susindro Singh in Imphal.
