The city of Ayodhya, nestled along the banks of the sacred Sarayu River, is not your ordinary city. Ayodhya holds a special place in the hearts of millions of people not only in India, but also world over. Ayodhya enjoys this place of prominence because it is one of the seven sacred cities of the Hindus, also known as Hindu Teerth. The other six are Mathura, Maya (Haridwar), Kasi (Varanasi), Kanchi (Kanchipuram), Avantika (Ujjain) and Dvaravati (Dwarka).

As per the Hindus, Ayodhya is the birthplace of Rama, one of the most revered Hindu deities. You will find this association in the great Indian epic poem Ramayana. The city is well-known for its rich cultural and historical significance, and invites pilgrims, history enthusiasts, and seekers of spiritual solace.


Though people can visit Ayodhya any time of the year, there are some specific times of the year when discerning travellers should plan their visit. During these times, the experience is truly magical.

• When the weather is just perfect: Weather-wise, October to March is the ideal time to visit Ayodhya. This is because the weather during these months is mostly cool and pleasant, meaning, one can explore the outdoors comfortably. During the winter months, the temperatures range from 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. As compared to the summer months, when stepping outside means exposure to extreme heat and seasonal rains, the winter months are a lot more relaxed and easy on the body too.

• Travel for the festivals: Travellers can also visit Ayodhya during festivals. The city of Ayodhya celebrates Diwali and Ram Navami in the most grand way possible. The city comes to life with vibrant festivities. Diwali in Ayodhya is an experience you should not miss out on. Ram Navami in April celebrates the birth of Rama, and is considered an auspicious time to visit Ayodhya.
