The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Forest Service are pleased to bring you this updated AirNow Fire and Smoke Map, with even more information you can use to protect yourself from wildland fire smoke. In addition, this version features an updated display that allows you to get a quick glance at information, tailored user interfaces for both desktop and mobile, and faster loading.

Key enhancements to Version 4 of the map include:

• Updated air quality icons. All of the air quality icons are now circles. The size of the circles indicates the type of device that is reporting fine particle pollution, the key pollutant in smoke.
• Clicking on any air quality icon, opens a box with additional information. You’ll see the current air quality, recommended actions to take to protect your health, the air quality history for the day, and a circle that shows whether the air is stable, improving, or getting worse.
• New ozone or coarse particle pollution (PM10) alerts. The information box will show you when ozone or coarse particle pollution (PM10) levels in your area are a higher AQI category/ies than particle pollution levels, with links to additional information so you can take appropriate actions.
