The Fightin’ Irish won their tournament opener in dominant fashion to improve to 4-0 on the year. Willie Felton had a nine-point second quarter on his way to a game-high 17 points. Trey Provost added a dozen points, followed by eight points apiece from Coen Demack and Callaghan O’Connor.
Paxton-Buckley-Loda 60, Cissna Park 37
After heading to halftime trailing just 25-17, the Timberwolves were outscored 21-7 in the third quarter and couldn’t crawl back. Dierks Neukomm tallied 16 points to lead Cissna Park, followed by a 15-point night from Seth Walder.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Central 50, Momence 31
The Comets stretched what was just a 16-13 lead after the first quarter into a comfortable 19-point win in both teams’ River Valley Conference opener. Gracie Schroeder buried four 3-pointers and totaled a game-high 14 points for the Comets (2-4, 1-0). Maddie Webb was also in double figures with 11 points. Myah Martinez had nine points, followed by eight points from Eriannah Martinez.
Momence (0-5, 0-1) was led by Sydnee VanSwol’s 10 points. A’Miracle Johnson had seven points, one more than Mya Roberson.
Donovan-St. Anne 42, Grant Park 27
The Wildcats (4-3) got a balanced scoring night to get past the Dragons in Monday’s RVC opener. Bailey Henneike led the way with 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals. Chloe Ponton and Laylah Lou Walters each had 10 points. Ponton added four assists, a pair of boards and four steals. Walters added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Tiffany DeYoung just missed a double-double, finishing with nine points, 19 rebounds and three steals.
Claire Sluis had eight points for the Dragons, followed by five from Abi Roberts. Taylor Panozzo had five points and four rebounds.
Watseka 51, Centennial 20
The Warriors stayed hot, getting out to a 5-1 start in dominant fashion. Rennah Barrett scored 14 of her game-high 15 points in the first half. Lauren Tegtmeyer had 10 points by the break, finishing with a dozen points and eight boards. Christa Holohan tallied seven points.
Wilmington 49, Reed-Custer 33
The Wildcats won their Illinois Central Eight Conference opener and their fifth game through their first six contests. Skylar Rossow paved the way with 13 points and six rebounds. Melia Hincherick had 10 points and a pair of rebounds. Sami Liaromatis added eight points and seven rebounds.
The Comets dropped to .500 overall (3-3) in their ICE opener. Alyssa Wollenzien was in double figures with 10 points, two rebounds and two steals. Gwen Stewart had eight points, two rebounds and two assists. Cameron Wallace and Leah Grace each had four points.
Herscher 54, Streator 34
The Tigers were dominant in their ICE opener, improving to 3-3 on the year. Nine different players scored for Herscher, led by 12 points from Anistin Hackley. Elise Hoffman and Pippa Dunhill had nine points apiece.
Coal City 59, Lisle 40
The Coalers made it a 4-1 start in their first game of the ICE season. Four players were in double figures, led by Becca Hall’s 13 points. Emma Rodriguez scored 11 points, with Sydney Larson and Kylee Kennell each pitching in 10 points.
Tri-Point 62, Gardner-South Wilmington 25
The Panthers stumbled in their RVC opener and sit at 1-6 in the young season. Maddie Simms scored 12 points to pace G-SW. Grace Olsen added nine points, followed by four points from Aubrey Male.
