Summer Programs

Amgen Scholars

Caltech's Amgen Scholars program introduces students to research under the guidance of seasoned research mentors. Students experience the process of research as a creative intellectual activity. Amgen Scholarships will be offered in the following fields: biochemistry; bioengineering; bioinformatics; chemical and biomolecular engineering; biopsychology; biotechnology; chemistry; immunology; medical pharmacology; microbiology; molecular genetics; molecular medicine; molecular pharmacology; molecular, cell, and developmental biology; neurobiology; neuroscience; pathology; physiological psychology; physiological science; statistics; toxicology.

Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory Research Program (LIGO)

Graduate and undergraduate students actively participate in the R&D program of LIGO. While furthering their education in a research environment, they make important contributions to the progress of the LIGO project. Students benefit from the diversity of scientific and engineering skills represented by the LIGO project's technical staff, including faculty, senior scientists, and engineers, who provide individual guidance and supervision to students.

NASA Planetary Geology and Geophysics Undergraduate Research Program

NASA provides funding for 8 weeks of summer undergraduate research for up to 12 qualified applicants. Selected students work closely with a NASA investigator to learn the details of research in planetary geosciences.

NASA Space Grant

NASA initiated the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Project, also known as Space Grant, in 1989. Space Grant is a national network of colleges and universities. These institutions are working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA's aeronautics and space projects by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research and public outreach efforts.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)

Caltech's Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships program introduces students to research under the guidance of seasoned research mentors at Caltech and JPL. Students experience the process of research as a creative intellectual activity.

WAVE Fellows

Caltech's WAVE Fellows program aims to foster diversity by increasing the participation of underrepresented students in science and engineering Ph.D. programs and making Caltech's programs more visible and accessible to students not traditionally exposed to Caltech.
