Common-Base Amplifier Experiment

This document summarizes an electronics engineering experiment on measuring the frequency response of a common-base (CB) amplifier. The objectives are to determine the input impedance, output impedance, and phase characteristics of a CB amplifier by measuring its input-output waveforms. A function generator is used as the power source and an oscilloscope is used to measure the input and output waveforms. Values are recorded and used to compute the unknown circuit parameters like input impedance (Zi), output impedance (Zo), voltage gain (Av), and current gain (Ai). The conclusions and acknowledgments are also presented.

I. OBJECTIVES
To fully understand the activity, certain objectives should
be met after the experiment. The student must be able to
determine the input impedance and output impedance of a CB
amplifier by accurately measuring and recording its input-
output waveform and phase characteristic of the CB amplifier.

II. MATERIALS NEEDED

Figure 2. Common-base transistor configuration

For both NPN and PNP circuits, the input of the common base
amplifier circuit is applied to the emitter, and the output taken
from the collector. The common terminal for both circuit is the
base.

IV. PROCEDURE
The experiment was conducted by following the given
wiring diagram. The function generator is connected and used
as a power source. It is setup in 200mV(p), 60Hz frequency.
The oscilloscope is attached in dual channel setup, for us to
measure both input waveform and output waveform. The
procedure is done using Multisim as the materials needed are
not available.

After the setup is done we proceeded with the experiment,

finding the values for each unknown parameter using a DMM
connected in various points of the circuit.

After recording all the necessary data for table 1, we then

computed for the unknown parameters in table 2.

V. ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS
