Date: 09.02.2021 Time: 30 Minutes
Lesson No: 05
I. PREPARATION:
Title: Working principle of DC Generator and back emf.
(1) Objectives: (After teaching this lesson the trainees will be able to)
1. Define DC Generator & its use.
2. Explain working principle of DC Generator.
3. Write back emf equation.
4. State the safety precautions to be taken while operate DC Generator
(2) Teaching Aids: Chalkboard, chalk, charts, computer system, projector, etc.
(3) Introduction:
(a) Review: Introduction to DC Machine
(b) Motivation: DC Generators are used for general lighting, giving the excitation to the alternators
and used for small power supply
II. PRESENTATION:
Development /
Information Points Hints
Topics
Definition A DC Generator is an electric machine which converts Use chart, projector
mechanical energy into electric energy
Electric energy is generated in the form of an
alternating voltage in the winding of DC generator
Working A DC generator works on the principle of Faradays
Principle Law of electromagnetic induction. The nature of emf
induced is dynamically induced emf.
Emf Equation The equation for emf induced in each conductor is
given by
E=BLV Sin thita= Em Sin thita
Where B= Flux density wb/m2
L=Length of conductor in meter
V= Velocity m/s
