Lesson Plan Grade 3

Theme: Zoo Animals


Level: Grades 1-2 (8-9 Years Old)
Duration: 30 minutes

Objectives:
 Ss can identify and say the zoo animals (bear, monkey, seal, lion).
 Ss can say what the animals can and can’t do
 Ss can identify and say their habitats (plain, jungle, forest, snow
and ice)

Activities:
1. Greeting
- Tc says hello and ask for Ss names:
“Hello, what’s your name?”
- Tc introduce her/ himself, “My name is ________”
- Ask Ss: Do you like to go the Zoo? / What do you like to see at
the zoo?

2. Introducing the vocabulary (Using the animals’ cards / toys)


- Tc shows the animal pictures and says “This is a bear,.. ”
- Ask Ss: “What animal is this?”
- Encourage Ss to say “This is a…”
- Introduce the animals’ abilities with movements: “A bear can
walk; A monkey can swing; etc.”
- Ask Ss: “What can the monkey do?”
- Have Ss to answer the question: It can …….”
- Ask Ss: “where does the monkey live?”
- Have Ss to answer the question: It lives in the …….”

3. House- Play Study


- Prepare the paper made-zoo – Open it with excitedly
- Tell Ss that they are going to put the animals in their habitats
- Hand the animal picture and have Ss to put it into their suitable
places. (A bear is the forest; A monkey is in the jungle; A seal is in
the snow and ice; A lion is on the plain.)
- Tc choose one animal to tell by pointing at one of the animals.
(Example: This is a ____. It can ______. It lives in the _____)
- Have Ss to choose one animal to talk about. Guide the students
to say the sentences.

4. Working on the worksheets


Part 1. Complete the sentences
- Have Ss write their names on the paper
- Instruct and guide Ss to complete the sentence using the
wordlist in each box.

Part 2. Read and Write.


- Have Ss to read about the bear aloud.
- Have Ss to choose and color one animal in the box.
- Ss write about the animals he/she chooses
- Ss read their own writing.

5. Wrap-up
- Ask read his/her writing on Part 2 practice
- Show a random animal cards again from those 4 animals and
have Ss to tell
- Good bye
