Asda: we'll be 10% cheaper or money back
Asda promises to be 10% cheaper than any other supermarket – or it will refund you the difference.
Roll back: Asda promise to be 10% cheaper than rivals
The offer steps up Asda's price match promise
From April last year, shoppers logged onto the Asda price guarantee website to compare the price of their shopping with supermarkets.
If the total bill from Asda was cheaper at any of the other supermarkets, then they would be refunded the difference plus one penny.
From today, the supermarket is extending the initiative to refund any customer whose total shop is not 10% cheaper.
This means that even if your total Asda shop is cheaper than any other supermarket, if it is not 10% cheaper you will still be able to claim back a refund.
If your shop is not 10% cheaper at more than one supermarket you are only eligible for a refund from the shop with the biggest difference.
The table below demonstrates how the price guarantee will work:
The refund comes in the form of vouchers – valid for 28 days - to be used on the next Asda shop.
There is no minimum amount that can be claimed but there is a maximum limit of £50 per month which can be redeemed each month.
But shoppers must wait until 9am the next day before they can log on to compare the price of their grocery shop.
The Asda Price Guarantee is powered by supermarket comparison website, Mysupermarket.co.uk, which independently tracks the price of items at Sainsbury's, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitrose and Asda.
It compares 15,000 like-for-like products, including both branded and own label groceries, accounting for around 70% of all grocery sales at Asda. The list for comparing items is set by Trading Standards.
A spokesperson for Asda told This is Money that in the past, on average, only one in 10 weekly shops compared using the Asda Price Guarantee were cheaper in another supermarket.
Andy Clarke, CEO of Asda, said: 'From today our price promise is backed by a copper-bottomed guarantee - if the basket of food you buy in our stores is not at least 10% than each of our major rivals, we'll put our hand in our pocket and give you back the difference.'
