'It's going to be OK, I'm going to be OK': The brave son, 17, of murdered Tina Kontozis comforts other mourners at her funeral

  • Daniel Kontozis, 17, comforted others at his mother's funeral on Thursday
  • His mother Tina, 51, was found dead in a Bundeena home, south Sydney
  • Her ex-partner Stephen Boyd, 51, has been charged with her murder
  • He will appear in court today after a NSW police extradition request

A boy whose mother was allegedly murdered by her ex-partner at their family home last week has bravely comforted other mourners at her funeral.

Daniel Kontozis, whose mum Tina was allegedly bludgeoned to death with a cricket bat on Sunday, cared for others as his mother was laid to rest on Thursday.

The 17-year-old has been a pillar of strength since his mother's death, putting the well being of family and friends ahead of his own grieving, his cousin told the Daily Telegraph.

'With Daniel telling us, look it’s going to be OK, I’m going to be OK. I think that’s amazing for him to be comforting those who hadn’t been as close to Tina as he was. It shows a lot of emotional strength,' Adam Kontozis said.

The family have maintained their privacy since Ms Kontzis' killing, but today spoke on the issue of domestic violence.

'I think people should say something (if they suspect something is wrong). If someone is willing to, they’ll do anything — just say something,' he said.

Stephen Boyd, 51, was charged with the killing childcare worker on Thursday.

Boyd was taken into custody on Monday following a large-scale manhunt - one day after the body of Kontozis was found at her home in Bundeena, southern Sydney.

The mother, who worked at Goanna Patch Kindergarten, was discovered bludgeoned to death with severe head injuries.

Boyd vanished after the alleged murder, but he was arrested on Monday just before 5pm in Wallace Street in Braidwood, nearly 300km away from the Bundeena home.
