The 349km penultimate stage of this year's event took the competitors from El Salvador to La Serena, with a big string of sand dunes to negotiate at the end.
Superman: Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics is captured midair as he releases a lay-up shot in front of Kendall Marshall of the Los Angeles Lakers at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts in Friday night's NBA clash. The Lakers edged out the Celtics 107-104.
Just hanging: Antoine Truchon performs a flip on his way to a third-placed finish during the Snowboard Jamboree Big Air final in Quebec City. The Canadian boarder recorded a best score of 156.25 points but that wasn't enough to beat Finland's Petja Piironinen in first with 161.75 or Sweden's Mans Hedberg in second with 161.00.
The stage is set: Minnesota and Ohio State ice hockey players warm up prior to an outdoor NCAA college game in Minneapolis. The match is known as the Hockey City Classic and finished 1-0 to Minnesota thanks to a second period goal from Taylor Cammarata in front of a crowd of 45,021 at the TCF Bank Stadium.
Sign here, please: Victoria Azarenka of Belarus signs autographs for fans after beating Austria's Yvonne Meusberger 6-1, 6-0 in their third round meeting at the Australian Open in Melbourne. The No 2 seed will now go on to play No 13 ranked Sloane Stephens of the United States.

Rhapsody in red: Russian skater Julia Lipnitskaia performs her free programme routine during the women's competition at the European Figure Skating Championships at the Syma Hall in Budapest. Her spectacular but respectful routine to John Williams' score from 'Schindler's List' earned Lipnitskaia, 15, the gold medal with a season's bets score of 209.72 points.
Guard of honour: The Australian team applaud James Faulkner from the field at the Gabba in Brisbane after his score of 69 guided them to victory over England in the second ODI on Friday. Having been set a target of 301 to win, Australia looked doomed on 244-9, but No 9 Faulkner smashed 69 from just 47 balls to earn an unlikely one-wicket win and a 2-0 series lead.
Awe-inspiring: Golfers walk along the 10th fairway during the first round of the Humana Challenge PGA tournament at the Palmer Private course at PGA West, La Quinta, California. The competition, which has a prize purse of $5.7million, is played over three different courses.
I believe I can fly: China's Cheng Shuang trains for the women's freestyle World Cup aerials event at Lake Placid, New York state. The competition takes places on Saturday.
