Floyd Mayweather intends to retire after the final fight of his $200million television deal next year.

The five-weight world champion told guests at a gala dinner in South Africa on Friday that he remembers his first fight when he was a kid in 1987, and that 'September 2015 will be my last'.

Mayweather, considered by many the best boxer of the modern era, said after beating Saul Alvarez in a one-sided display last September that he had four fights and two years left in his career.

His next bout will be in May, with Britain's Amir Khan imminently set to be announced as his opponent, as Sportsmail first revealed.

Unusually, that would mean Mayweather having to again fight twice in both 2014 and 2015.

His 2013 victories over Alvarez and Robert Guerrero represented his busiest year since 2007, when he overcame both Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya. He hasn't fought more than twice a year since 2005.
