Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has been anonymously reported to police for drinking champagne on the pitch while celebrating Poland qualifying for Euro 2016.

The 27 year old, arguably the best centre forward in Europe this season after scoring 15 goals in six games, was seen drinking from a celebratory bottle following his side's crucial 2-1 victory over Ireland at Warsaw's National Stadium.

The act was deemed a potential breach of the country's Act on Safety of Mass Events, which states that the consumption 'can only take place in designated areas'.

Lewandowski reacted by posting a message on Twitter that translates as 'Cheers'

While a spokesperson for the Police District Commander said that 'each notification must be taken seriously, as the police are there to ensure order', Lewandowski's agent Cezary Kucharski was less fussed about the incident.

Speaking to Polish website SportoweFakty, he said: 'We don't take this matter seriously.

'I hope that the FA will strive to ensure that they can explain the situation. I don't want Robert to have to bother with such trifle'.

The 26 year old is arguably the hottest striker in Europe after scoring 15 goals in just six games

Several of Lewandoski's international team-mates took the opportunity to poke fun at the striker with Sevilla's Grzegorz Krychowiak taking to Twitter to claim his innocence.

Torino defender Kamil Glik also joked: 'I also drank, can I expect a phone call?', while even the president of the Polish FA Zbigniew Boniek by replying to Glik that the Italian Military Police were 'on their way', and that he should 'get in touch'.

Lewandowski has not commented directly on the matter, although he did post a message on social media that simply said: 'Cheers'.
