Didier Drogba wants to manage Chelsea in the future... but for now he's backing his old boss Jose Mourinho

Didier Drogba has revealed he has ambitions to manage former club Chelsea one day when he takes his place in the dugout.

Drogba played for the Blues for nine seasons and earned legend status after helping them win four Premier League crowns and the Champions League.

The 37-year-old Drogba, who was promoting his new book 'Commitment' in London on Wednesday, left the club in the summer after a second spell at Stramford Bridge, joining Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact.

The former Ivory Coast international insists he wants to give something back to Chelsea and admits talks with the the club's directors have already taken place about him returning to west London.

'I want to give back to the club which has given so much to me. I have agreed that with the club directors,' the 37-year-old told BBC Africa.

And Drogba sees no reason why he could not one day sit in the Chelsea dugout but doesn't rule out a variety of roles.

'Why not manager? Why not sporting director, trainer at the academy or maybe an advising role for strikers?'

Drogba, who scored 104 Premier League goals for Chelsea, has offered his backing to Jose Mourinho following the difficult start to the season.

'If the club has kept him that means owner Roman Abramovich thinks that he is the right man,' he said. 'I think the players trust him and he is giving his best to change the situation.'

Chelsea won for only the fourth time in the top flight this season when they beat Norwich 1-0 and head into Sunday's London derby against Tottenham way down in 15th.
