Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera insisted that he isn't 'desperate' for wins this season, or feeling ample pressure headed into his fourth year with the team, while speaking to the Washington Times.
'I could be gone in a year. That's football,' Rivera said. 'I understand that.
'But what I want to do is when I leave, I want everybody to go and say, 'Boy the roster's in a good place.' That's great. I want to walk away saying that's what I did. I'm good with it. I understand it.
'I'm not going to be desperate. I'm not. Because when you're desperate, you make bad decisions.'
Rivera has gone 22-27-1 during his three seasons as coach of the Commanders and recorded either seven or eight wins in each season.

The Commanders coaching staff has insisted Sam Howell will be their starting quarterback
Coming into this season the Commanders' roster looks solid enough on both sides of the ball to have an impressive year, although they still appear to be missing the most important element at quarterback.
Wide receivers Terry Rozier, Jahan Dotson, and promising young running back Brian Robinson should provide a solid assortment of weapons on offense for whoever ends up throwing them the ball, while names on defense like Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen and Chase Young have kept Washington as one of the tougher teams to move the ball against.
Washington's coaching staff has insisted that second-year QB and former fifth-round pick Sam Howell will be the starter despite only playing one game during his rookie year.
'If we took all that tape and we put it all together, I think people would sit there and say, 'Wow, this guy's pretty damn good,'' Rivera said of Howell. 'I really believe that. And if we have to do that to do a presentation with a (new) ownership, I'd be happy to.'
The team also signed veteran Jacoby Brissett to a deal this offseason.
Washington also signed a new offensive coordinator this season in former Kansas City Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy.
