The (Big) Apple of my eye! Vanessa Hudgens takes her pooch Darla for a stroll in New York City as she prepares to make Broadway debut

With just days to go until her anticipated Broadway debut in the stage revival of Gigi, Vanessa Hudgens has been enjoying the sights and sounds of New York City between rehearsals.

The 26-year-old actress was spotted strolling the streets of the Big Apple with her equally stunning sister, Stella, and her adorable fluffy pet pooch, Darla, on Sunday.

While Darla walked alongside the ladies in a red vest, Vanessa opted for a full black ensemble, wrapping up in a warm, mixed-texture coat and rollneck sweater with over-the-knee flat boots.

With her raven, shoulder-length locks blowing freely in the crisp breeze, the High School Musical star donned a stylish pair of sunglasses.

The brunette beauty recently returned from a vacation in New Zealand, which she took ahead of her upcoming stint on Broadway, which officially kicks off on Thursday at the Neil Simon Theatre.

She will be starring as the title character in Gigi, alongside co-stars Victoria Clark as her grandmother Mamita and Corey Cott as Gaston Lachaille - her character's love interest.

The show is based on the 1944 novel by French author Colette, originally produced for the stage in 1951 by Anita Loos with Audrey Hepburn – then an unknown actress – taking the lead.

Taking to her Twitter account in December, Vanessa gave fans their first look at her dressed as the titular character in a sweeping black gown.

In a caption accompanying the shot, she wrote: ‘It’s all really happening! @kennedycentre @gigonbroadway #ChooseLamour #GigiDC.’

Adapted for the screen in 1949 and again in 1958, Gigi claimed nine Oscars at the 1959 Academy Awards – among them Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Original Score and Best Director for filmmaker Vincente Minnelli.

It also scooped a prestigious Tony Award for Best Original Score in 1973 after an impressive 103 Broadway performances that year.

The new production will be directed by Eric Schaeffer and will feature songs including I Remember It Well, Thank Heaven For Little Girls and Say A Prayer For Me Tonight.
