INSERTING PICTURES
[edit]{{Help me}}how can i insert pictures from outside sources on infoboxes? thanks
- In order for Wikipedia to use an image in an infobox or anywhere, it has to be uploaded, either locally or the the Wikimedia Commons. First you must determine the proper license of the image (or whether it is in the public domain). If you know the image is public domain or copyrighted but under a suitable free-license, upload it to the Wikimedia Commons instead of here, so that all projects have access to the image (sign up). If you are unsure of the licensing status, see the file upload wizard for more information. Please also read Wikipedia's image use policy.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:27, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

how can i create customized basketballboxes for FIBA subzone championships like SEABA Women's Championships and SEABA Under-16 Championships, for example? thanks in advance..Alexander marshall 07 (talk) 13:03, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
- It depends. I can show you if you point me to a specific kind of box you want. Are you talking about a {{Infobox Organization}} box, like the kind on FIBA Asia or something else? Point me to the kind of box you mean. Additional questions can be asked at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball. Viriditas (talk) 15:09, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

i would like to create a basketball box template for SEABA Championships, how can i create one? thanks Alexander marshall 07 (talk) 04:43, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- Look at the templates used in articles found in Category:FIBA Asia Championship, such as 2001 ABC Championship qualification#Southeast Asia, and 2003 ABC Championship qualification#Southeast Asia. Does that help? What kind of box do you want to create and for which article? Viriditas (talk) 06:52, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship 2011 logo.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship 2011 logo.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.
Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Matthew Thompson talk to me bro! 07:58, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
License tagging for File:2010 SEABA Championship for Women.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:2010 SEABA Championship for Women.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 08:05, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
Hey mate, I saw on that guys talk page that you needed help with the logo for this tournament. I don't know why but I just had the urge to fix that problem for you. So I did. Some tips to help you out!
[edit]Hi Alexander marshall 07, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)
First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.
Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Alexander marshall 07/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.
For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).
Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.
Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you.
One last thing to keep as a motto: "It's better to write one good, well-referenced, nicely-presented article than it is to create fifty unreferenced one-line stubs!" Pesky (talk …stalk!) 13:19, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
How references work
[edit]Simple references
[edit]These require two parts;
- a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
- b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References == {{reflist}}
(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)
To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Alexander marshall 07/reftest and try it out.
Named references
[edit]Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref> Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>
Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.
Citation templates
[edit]You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;
Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation | last = Smith | first = John | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century | publication-date = 2001 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]] | page = 125 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4 }} </ref>
Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.
For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.
Here's a little bit of magic which can save you an awful lot of time and effort!
[edit]You might want to consider using this tool - (tools:~dispenser/cgi-bin/webreflinks.py) - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well all by itself. For those it can;t do by itself, it gives you a pull-down (or up) menu of templates to choose from, which you can then fill in manually. Often the problem is "No title found" - sometimes the title is obvious (especially if it's a pdf), bit, if not, just open the page yourself and choose soemthing appropriate if there's not already a clear title there. Happy editing! Pesky (talk …stalk!) 13:19, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Official logo of 2012 SEABA U-18 Championship.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Official logo of 2012 SEABA U-18 Championship.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:55, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Experimenting for new types of basketball infobox templates
[edit]This user page employs intricate features of template syntax.
You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with its setup and parser functions before editing the template. If your edit causes unexpected problems, please undo it quickly, as this template may appear on a large number of pages. You can conduct experiments, and should test all major changes, in either this template's sandbox, the general template sandbox, or your user space before changing anything here. |

Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175
[edit]Dear Alexander marshall 07,
Greetings!
As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.
Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.
Thank you and maraming salamat po!
Kind regards,
Ionoutz

It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. title: India thrashes Bangladesh 95-35 in SABA Zone Qualifying round
from: http://news.webindia123.com/
Bengaluru | Friday, Jul 8 2016 IST
India thrashed Bangladesh 95-35 in the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Zone Qualifying Round and booked the spot in the FIBA Asia Challenge 2016 to be held in Iran later this September.
Defending Champions India easily beat Bangladesh in the final round robin league game to finish the qualifying round with a perfect 3-0 record.
This is India's third consecutive win at the South Asian regional qualification level.
In the League played on Round Robin, India grew from strength to strength to finish its SABA campaign in style, with a faultless victory over Bangladesh. Unlike yesterday, when India committed a few errors in its attempt to be flashy, today the side was all business right from the opening tip off. Yet again, veteran shooting guard opened scoring for India with a jumper as theh osts raked up an astonishing 25-2 lead within the first five minutes. There was no stopping India inside the paint, as it's taller front court led by Captain Amritpal Singh, had their way in the paint, with multiple dunks and alley-oops. India had a whopping 68 points in the paint, and when the starters decided to take a breather, the bench stepped in to maintain the scoring momentum. India had 49 bench points as against Bangladesh's 19, and showed exemplary selflessness with 25 team assists. As many as four Indian players had in-game dunks much to the delight of the crowd.
Earlier, Nepal prevailed over Maldives. Three Nepal players scored in double digits as the side outscored Maldives 19-11 in the fourth to seal the deal after the teams were locked at 43-43 at the end of the third quarter.

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palestine. Please help me with the Template Basketballbox. How can I add OT scores on it? Many thanks in advance.
Alexander marshall 07 (talk) 08:54, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
- @Alexander marshall 07:, all templates document their parameters on their page. In the case of Template:Basketballbox, if you look at the template page you will see that there are two parameters that apply: a "overtime=" parameter and a "OT=" parameter. The "overtime=" parameter is only added if there was OT and the value of the parameter is "OT" or "Overtime" or whatever you want it to say. The "OT=" is again only used for OT games and contains the score for the OT period the same way the "Q1"-"Q4" parameters do. Hope this helps. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:43, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

The article 2017 Merlion Cup (basketball) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No references. No text. Inadequate context.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:13, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:28, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Official logo of the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Official logo of the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:05, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:2018 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship.jpg. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Need your assistance for this question regarding linking PDF files from website. I would like to reference FIBA Internal Regulations - Book 2 (http://www.fiba.basketball/en/Module/85132837-66aa-4ff3-a063-8cdfe44ea14d/af6105e1-fac3-4456-8430-ee55ed3d2196) to some articles, but only certain pages will be linked.
Articles that will use this link:
FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup
FIBA Under-17 Women's Basketball World Cup
FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup
FIBA Under-19 Women's Basketball World Cup
- You can use {{cite web}} to create a citation to a PDF that is available on the web. The template includes parameters where you can give particular page numbers. With obscure and opaque URLs like this, you should ensure that an archive copy exists to avoid the perils of linkrot.
- As a general practice, however, we avoid citing primary sources such as these internal regulations. We'd prefer to see a secondary source that discusses (or interprets) the rules in question. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 19:05, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

[edit]An article you recently created, King's Cup (basketball), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Whitewashing of Bongbong Marcos and Imee Marcos articles
[edit]Hi, many of your edits on the Bongbong Marcos and Imee Marcos have been reverted since whitewashing is not allowed on Wikipedia as the neutral point of view requires that such information is uncensored. Several consensuses ([1] [2] [3]) have already been held, agreeing that all supporting evidence points towards Ferdinand Marcos Sr. being a kleptocrat and dictator; it refers to the fact it happened and should not be whitewashed by any of his other achievements.
Any justification to remove the tags will have to be agreed on by consensus with supporting evidence otherwise on the talk page. Ganmatthew (talk) 01:04, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organized event (tour, function, meeting, party, etc.) that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Wikipedia is not your webhost and a ten-year editor should know that
[edit]Hi. I'm sure it's inconvenient for you that consensus isn't supporting your fandom. I would have thought after this many years you would have learned about WP:AFD and WP:CONSENSUS. You don't have the record of accomplishment to get away with reverting an admin. It might be easier for all of us to simply chase you off the platform. That doesn't help anyone, does it? You were notified of the deletion discussion and you didn't take part, and you could have. Being a deletionist, I might start looking at other U18 basketball articles to send to deletion because WP:V is a policy and fire is a cleanser. This is why I'm coming to you and asking nicely for your forethought and cooperation. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:35, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

- Hello, Alexander marshall 07,
- You are welcome to take the content from this page and create a Draft article which you can submit for AFC approval. That is the only way I know to overcome an AFD decision to "delete" or "redirect" a page. If you keep recreating this article, it will eventually be deleted instead of simply reverted and you will lose all access to the content you have created. Liz Read! [edit]You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Points to note:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Chris Troutman (talk) 01:41, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't know what you are up to, but instead of helping me out to improve my article, you keep on reverting my edits back. I don't know either with you if you are personally attacking me or what, but if you think that I am making the mistake, you think highly on yourself, I guess you should be helping me instead. Nobody has done this to my articles before until you did this a few months now. If you want to be credited with that article I made then you may do so but it appears that you are mocking my ten-year experience with this statement?

- I don't go with the technicalities like you are forcing me to do, as no one dare to advise me how to do it and nobody is just as nagging as you are right now but I am just fed up with your specific attack on me and on my articles.
- Edit war you say? Am I getting fair judgment here if the consensus are not as hoop junkie as I am? Tell me if I am spreading wrong information on my articles then I will rest my case and you can do what you want.
- Lastly, if you really want to help me out, don't be so arrogant by just reverting my edits, and if you imply that you are a deletionist, you should be reaching out to users that you think that might be misguided in editing just like me. Alexander marshall 07 (talk) 04:37, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:King's Cup logo.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:King's Cup logo.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 07:44, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
