  • Wikipedia ends the year with 60,245,010 articles in 326 languages (plus 3 language wikis with 0 articles), which constitutes a 4% increase in articles over the past year.
  • Wiktionary ends the year with 32,481,510 entries in 166 languages (plus 20 language wikis with 0 entries), a 5% increase in entries over the past year.
  • Wikiquote ends the year with 289,674 content pages in 80 languages (plus 13 language wikis with 0 content pages), a 9% increase in content pages over the past year.
  • Wikibooks ends the year with 339,727 book modules in 98 languages (plus 22 language wikis with 0 book modules), a 9% increase in book modules over the past year.
  • Wikisource ends the year with 5,555,695 text units in 213 languages (comprising 5,500,296 units in 74 individual language wikis and an additional 55,399 units in 146 languages at the Multiligual Wikisource — 7 languages have content in both places), a 9% increase in text units over the past year.
  • Wikinews ends the year with 1,741,499 articles in 34 languages, a 0.4% increase in articles over the past year.
  • Wikiversity ends the year with 143,885 learning modules in 54 languages (comprising 140,440 modules in 17 separate language wikis and an additional 3,445 modules in 37 languages at Wikiversity Beta), a 6% increase in learning modules over the past year.
  • Wikivoyage ends the year with 130,573 articles in 24 languages, a 3% increase in articles over the past year.
  • Wikimedia Commons ends the year with 89,709,814 media files, a 12% increase over the past year.
  • Wikispecies ends the year with 829,235 content pages, a 6% increase over the past year.
  • Wikidata ends the year with 101,103,735 items, a 5% increase over the past year.
  • Wikimedia Incubator ends the year with 143,153 content pages across 1,225 test wikis in 877 different languages (including 15 test wikis that are currently empty), a 5% increase in content pages and 10% increase in test wikis over the past year.
  • There were 12 content wikis created in 2022 (4 Wikipedias, 3 Wiktionaries, 4 Wikiquotes, and 1 Wikivoyage), 6 fewer than were created in 2021.
  • No content wikis were closed/locked in 2022.
Note: The article counts listed above are actual counts collected at around 00:20 UTC on 2023-01-01 (a little late this year). All counts are based on what MediaWiki sees as constituting an article (or content page), as reflected at each wiki's Special:Statistics page. Language counts (which were collected in the first 2 hours of 2023-01-01) include closed (but not deleted) wikis and count "Simple English" as a separate language when such a wiki exists within a project.

  • The maintenance script that initializes (recounts) the on-wiki statistics for all Wikimedia wikis is now set to run at 9pm UTC every day; this time was chosen to better sync up with daily statistics collection activities that begin at midnight UTC.

  • The newly created Nigerian Pidgin Wikipedia has had its on-wiki statistics initialized, resulting in 241 articles.
  • The maintenance script that initializes the on-wiki statistics for all Wikimedia wikis (reflected on each wiki's Special:Statistics page) is now set to run every day at 5:39am UTC, rather than only twice a month; one side effect is that newly created wikis will see their article counts reflect reality much sooner after their content has been imported.
