While most people feel that Trellises can only be added to a large garden with ample space, they ignore the concept of small trellises that are added just for looks and aesthetics. And so, if you have a balcony garden, here is how to add a small rose trellis to it. canva

Bring home a climbing rose

One of the easiest ways to add the small trellis is by buying a climbing rose so that it does not break or start to wither when you shape it. canva

Pick the trellis spot

Before you start making the Trellis, make sure it will be well exposed to the sun and air, and there will be a means to water it or the flowers might dry out overtime. canva

How to make a small trellis

Now, the easiest way to make a small trellis will be by shaping a metal frame, or 2-3 of them, and adding them to the pots in which the rose flower is grown. Or you can shape the trellis around the balcony rails if you have one. canva

For the small trellis, you can shape and install the trellis in the pot itself. Pick a large and deep pot and add rich, organic soil in it, preferably one that will make the flowers bloom early. canva

Install the trellis

Now it is important to make sure that you only add the trellis to the pot once there are 4-5 flowers already blooming. Dig little holes and place the trellis inside and then carefully and with gentle hands wrap the stems and leaves around the trellis. canva

Train it to climb

Once the flowers start growing more and the leaves are bushy, guide more rose stems gently on the trellis as they grow. Use soft garden ties to string the stems to the trellis and make sure you are not breaking any stems or nodes. canva

Water from the soil

If you have installed the trellis in the soil itself, watering will not be an issue at all. You can directly water the plant via the soil and the growth will continue. But if the trellis is around the rails it is best to mist the stems and flowers once everyday. canva

Maintaining

Maintaining the small trellis is easy and does not need much hardwork. If the plant starts weighing down the trellis, prune and shape it and it will be good to go. And if you see any rust on the trellis, it is best to wipe it clean or change the trellis altogether. canva
