Martha Stewart has revealed that she didn't spend Christmas in chilly New York, but instead, she decided to jet off to Africa for a lavish safari.

The 83-year-old homemaking expert took to Instagram this week and confirmed that she was enjoying a safari holiday at a luxurious resort in Namibia, where a family chalet costs almost $600-per-night.

Revealing that she was staying at Ongava Game Reserve, Martha posted some photos on Christmas Day and captioned them: 'Our first drive on the @ongavagamereserve on Christmas Eve.

'Our knowledgeable guide and driver introduced us to the white rhino, the various antelopes and impalas and some land tortoises and terrapins The sunset was spectacular.'

She also shared some video footage of rhinos and informed her 2.5 million followers: 'White rhino and baby Grazers need grass to survive. Females have longer front horns than males Gorgeous creatures.'

In addition, Martha posted a few photos of a beautiful double rainbow, adding that they'd had a 'night of gentle rain.'

The Ongava Game Reserve is home to several opulent villas that have private infinity pools as well as viewing decks.

The vast private reserve offers guests an array of experiences and activities and also has it's very own spa deck, where holiday-goers can enjoy a massage in nature.

And a different person wrote: 'Lovely what a great adventure,' followed by a red heart emoji.

It's unsure who has accompanied Martha to Africa, but there's a good chance she's holidaying with her daughter Alexis and Alexis' two children, Jude and Truman.

Martha's Christmas vacation comes after she decided to spend Thanksgiving in Italy, where she took her grandchildren to Rome.

However, many people slammed Martha for her 'disappointing' behavior whilst in the Italian capital, after she uploaded several photos taken from inside the Sistine Chapel.

The sacred space is located inside the Apostolic Palace, which is the Pope's official residence in Vatican City, and it's a well-known fact that photography and filming are completely banned.

The official website for the Sistine Chapel states: 'Taking pictures and filming videos in the Sistine Chapel is strictly prohibited.'

However, Martha posted 14 photos from inside one of the world’s most famous buildings, and she captioned the post: 'Just a few iPhone photos of what we saw during our quiet hour in the Sistine Chapel!'

'I love the painting and the biblical history that is portrayed in the Chapel. This should definitely be on your bucket list,' she added, but some of her 2.4 million followers were not impressed.

Taking to the comments section, one person asked: 'Why is it that they let you take pictures? It’s just wrong!' while a second questioned: 'How did you get away with taking pics?'

'So she’s allowed to take photos in there but regular people aren’t? That’s kind of bulls**t,' a third fumed, while a fourth said: 'I guess the guards let celebrities take pics then.'
