An American woman who flew to Pakistan to meet her teenage online 'lover' is refusing to leave the country after his family 'said they can't get married' - and is demanding money from the government.

In a tale of heartbreak that has bewildered the internet, New Yorker Onijah Andrew Robinson, 32, has become a social media sensation after clips of her giving press conferences insisting she is going to 'reconstruct' the South Asian nation have been made into countless TikTok edits.

She was also pictured camping outside the house of her alleged 19-year-old beau, Nidal Ahmed Memon, after his parents reportedly intervened in the affair - even though it is understood they vacated the premises.

A young man claiming to be her son has made a video address saying she has 'mental bipolar disorder' and explained he was trying to get her back to the US.

'She can't think correctly at this moment,' he said in a clip shared by Viral Verse. 'She was not married to nobody. I'm trying to help her.'

However, Onijah - who is said to be a mother of four - has repeatedly refused to leave Pakistan and despite a few days ago accepting an offer for a flight back, is said to still be in the nation.

She has also reportedly been seen by a team at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for mental health support.

As well as claiming she is married to her alleged partner, she has also demanded cash from the government, to 'rebuild' Pakistan.

'My plan is to rebuild this entire country. I'm asking for $100k, and I need $20k in cash by the end of this week. That's my demand from the government,' she said in one press conference, as reported by Geo News

'The government needs to fix these streets… it's ridiculous here, I don't like it. You all need to understand that Pakistan needs new buses, taxis, and cars.'

It is understood that Onijah met her 'boyfriend' online after he found her Facebook profile.

In an online explainer, influencer @shey.luh revealed that Onijah's pictures were 'very edited', sparking some online accusations of 'catfishing'.

When she arrived in Pakistan in October, the content creator said she did meet her 'boyfriend' and his family, but the parents immediately said nothing can happen between them.

However, other reports claimed that Nidal never showed up for the meeting with Onijah.

She sparked media attention when - after the break-up - Onijah refused to leave and 'camped' outside the family's house.

While it seems that Onjiah and Nidal are not husband and wife, some on social media suggested that the pair may have been 'married' via an online Muslim wedding service.

The New Yorker also decided to start holding press conferences to local media, where she would offer her plans to 'improve' Pakistan while insisting she is married to Nidal Ahmed.

Elsewhere she has also alleged that the pair are going to have a baby and live in Dubai.

Eventually, Onijah's tourist visa was said to have expired and an NGO offered to help her with a ticket back to the US.

However, as reported by Black Enterprise, she 'refused'.

Arab News says Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori helped with extending Onijah's expired visa and setting up a flight back to the US, but she last week did not get on.

Officer Kaleem Khan Moosa told the publication she instead took a cab back to Nidal's old apartment building and stayed there for 'nearly 30 hours' before going to a charity shelter.

The outlet also said Karachi authorities claim Onijah had made no formal complaint against Nidal.

'We learned that an American woman is present in the building in connection with a local man,' Senior Superintendent Police Arif Aziz reportedly said.

#The young man has disappeared after leaving his home, but since there is no complaint in this case and it is a personal matter, our responsibility is limited to providing security to the woman only.'

A spokesperson for the US consulate in Karachi told Arab News that 'the mission was aware of the situation but could not comment due to privacy laws'.

Despite this, another video then shortly saw Onijah stating that she would be willing to go back home.

'I would like you guys to book my ticket back to New York,' she said in a clip, according to the outlet. 'Money is short right now, and I will appreciate it.'

Despite that, it is not clear if she has made her way back to the US yet.

According to Arab News, Nidal's whereabouts are 'currently unknown'.

In a letter written by South Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mahzoor Ali, Dawn.com reported that it's clear the experience has had a 'significant impact' on Onijah's wellbeing.

'Several individuals approached her with "ulterior motives", further compromising her security,' it added. 'Given her status as a foreign citizen, the situation placed her in a vulnerable position, jeopardising her life.

'Consequently, the police authorities intervened to handle the situation.'

It continued that Onijah needed 'urgent medical attention', and she was 'temporarily placed under the supervision of medical authorities for psychological help'.

'Given these circumstances, the metropolis police chief has been requested to approach concerned quarters to provide guidance regarding her continuation of provision of medical assistance.'

It also requested that the 'deportation process' to get Onijah back home be initiated.

Onijah is understood to have in past been charged with entering premises after warning according to online mugshot information provided by Charleston County South Carolina.

Her story has wowed social media users, with many taking to TikTok to make edits and compilations of 'the American lady in Pakistan'. Many have also praised the seemingly kind and understanding reception from local authorities and communities.

FEMAIL has reached out to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a statement - and has attempted to reach out to Onijah.

The U.S. Consulate Karachi said: 'Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment.'
