Man United 2-1 Leicester PLAYER RATINGS: Who is too lackadaisical on the ball? Which star is a 'frustrating watch'? And who is Ruben Amorim's get-out-of-jail-free card?

  • Manchester United left it late to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup
  • Harry Maguire's stoppage time header was enough to separate the two sides
  • LISTEN NOW: It's All Kicking Off! Does the Premier League REALLY need to look at goal celebrations?

Manchester United plugged in another dismal display but this time got away with it as Harry Maguire headed them into the next round of the FA Cup.

Ruben Amorim's side are in a real trying moment and it looked to be heading to a new low when Bobby De Cordova Reid headed Leicester City in front in the first half.

There were some boos at Old Trafford from the home support but unlike on Sunday when they fell 2-0 to Crystal Palace, United were able to spin this one back in their favour with the help of man-of-the-match Alejandro Garnacho, sent on for the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee, another sub, tapped in to draw United level as they ramped up the pressure, but it looked to be heading to extra time.

That was until the 93rd minute when Maguire - who appeared to be offside - headed in a Bruno Fernandes free kick.

MANCHESTER UNITED (3-4-2-1)

Andre Onana - 6

Hard to blame him for the goal when there are two defenders essentially stood on his toes and the Leicester attacker sandwiched between them reacts to nod in from a yard out. Was a pretty smooth sailing watching brief that aside.

Leny Yoro - 6

It has become increasingly clear why Leny Yoro has not been thrown to the wolves and made a permanent starter the moment he walked through the door in the summer. Jordan Ayew gave him a hard time in the first half before Ruben Amorim’s reshuffle at the break saw him shifted to left centre-back, rather than right. Is supremely talented but it will take time for him to fill out his frame and become the commanding, Rio Ferdinand-esque centre back so many here believe he can be.

Harry Maguire - 7

Flanked by inexperience at the centre back position, Maguire put in a quiet and composed display until enough was enough and he had to come and salvage an evening that was threatening to drag on all the way to a penalty shootout. His bullet header at the back post in stoppage time felt like a get-out-of-jail-free card being cashed.

Noussair Mazraoui - 5.5

Many have been calling for him to play as a centre back due to his limitations as a wing-back. But the evidence, at least in the first half, even had you pausing for thought on that. Mazraoui looked uncomfortable at left centre back in the opening 45 and, along with Diogo Dalot, made a mess of the Leicester goal. Finds himself in a rough patch of form amid the side’s general malaise.

Patrick Dorgu - 6.5

The £29.4million January arrival was thrust in to make his debut at right wing-back, which surprised plenty here given he was signed as a left wing-back. Despite his head coach’s prediction, he showed no signs of nerves and was a rare bright spot in a dreadfully dull first half. Taken off at the break.

Manuel Ugarte - 5

Made a costly mistake giving the ball away in the moments prior to Leicester taking the lead. It seems like Amorim has settled on Ugarte and Fernandes as the anchor pairing in midfield but the Uruguayan still has a way to go to cut mistakes from his game. Can sometimes be far too lackadaisical on the ball.

Bruno Fernandes - 6.5

When so many players look back in possession it's always refreshing to see Bruno Fernandes try *something*. And even when he is not at his best - and he wasn't here - he so often delivers that one crucial bit of quality, such as the stoppage time ball in straight onto the head of Harry Maguire. Clutch.

Diogo Dalot - 5

So often a frustrating watch. It was puzzling to see him start at left wing-back with new signing Patrick Dorgu on the other side, while his attacking output left plenty to be desired. His starting berths must be coming under more and more scrutiny.

Kobbie Mainoo - 5.5

Spared from the centre forward role that he was unfortunately tasked with against Crystal Palace, Mainoo was back at No 10 - only his influence felt similar. He failed to create a chance, or have a shot, and completed just 14 of 19 pass attempts before he was taken off for Joshua Zirkzee. Ruben Amorim has to find a way to unlock what he saw from Mainoo in Bucharest on a much more regular basis.

Amad Diallo - 7

Continues to look so threatening when he’s pushed into that right wing-back role. United were turgid in the first half when he was up as a No 10 but a half-time reshuffle saw the Ivorian back out wide and he was so dynamic thereafter. His direct running terrifies opponents.

Rasmus Hojlund - 5

Was completely anonymous in the first half, so much so it was easy to forget he was even playing. But the introduction of Alejandro Garnacho coaxed something out of Hojlund, who suddenly looked more interested and engaged. It's tough watching Hojlund right now because you're watching a young player who you know has had his confidence decimated by the way this season has played out - and the national criticism that has come as a result of it.

MANAGER: Ruben Amorim - 6

Has got to be very careful at trying to be too cute. Starting Patrick Dorgu at right wing-back instead of left wing-back was puzzling and the first half performance that followed felt like it fell on his decision-making. But he was bold with his substitutions again and for that he deserves credit.
