The 90-year-old actress - who recently released a photographic memoir - appears to be in a particularly reflective mood of late, with insiders telling DailyMail.com that whoever lands the job would need to be able to 'discuss her movies and career' while they sip their tipples.
With a celebrated career that has seen her shine bright onscreen as well as on Broadway, Shirley certainly has an abundance of tales to share with a future staffer.
'Shirley recently asked friends if they could recommend a personal assistant for her,' the insider exclusively revealed. 'She gave her pals a short list of requirements for the job.
'The main qualifications she has required are that the applicants need to be available for a cocktail with her at 5pm, and then be able to discuss her movies and career. Night after night.'
Naturally, the Steel Magnolias actress was asked by pals if there were any other qualities she would love her future assistant to have.

However, the Terms of Endearment actress also noted that not every star she liked reciprocated her feelings.
Under a picture of herself with Morgan Freeman, she wrote: 'I propositioned him and he turned me down.'
Morgan achieved his Hollywood breakthrough in 1989 with a string of movies including the drama Driving Miss Daisy, for which he earned an Oscar for best actor.
At that stage, he was already with his second wife Myrna Colley-Lee, whom he was married to from 1984 until their divorce in 2010.

Although Morgan and Shirley have both been Hollywood staples for over 35 years, and he is just three years her junior, they have never starred in a movie together.
Elsewhere in the book, Shirley wrote that she slept with all her leading men - except for Jack Lemmon and Jack Nicholson.
She also waxed rhapsodic about Nicolas Cage, her costar in the 1994 movie Guarding Tess, but noted they never had a sexual connection.
