Modular Building Concept

Verbus Systems commissioned KKA and Buro Happold to develop a modular building concept for multi-story buildings like hotels and student housing. They created a fully modular system with prefabricated ground floors, finished room modules, and modular roofs with plant modules. A sample module and marketing suite were developed to demonstrate how the system could construct variable designs and layouts through combinations of module volumes, placements, and finishes.

Modular Building Concept

Following a series of commissions from various clients for the development of bespoke modular hotel solutions KKA were appointed by Verbus Systems to work with them and Global Engineering practice Buro Happold to develop a generic Modular Building Concept that could be applied to multi storey cellular building applications such as hotels and student accommodation. The emphasis was to demonstrate that Modular construction need not be limited by a single solution and that variable volume, juxtaposition and finish could construct endless design solutions and building layouts. The result was a fully modular system that comprised a pre-fabricated ground floor plinth above which sits fully fitted and finished room modules topped by a modular roof complete with gutter system and pre-installed plant modules all of which were finished with a system of fully glazed and insulated 'clip on' cladding solutions. A sample module and marketing suite was developed and delivered to the UK for exhibition as part of our ongoing projects.
