1.1: Downloading Windows 10 Image


Download Windows 10 Installation image (if you have not done yet).

1. Open Azure download page


2. Click on the blue Sign In button.

3. Use your Centennial email address to sign in. It will divert to your Centennial sign in
page.
4. Sign in using your Centennial credentials.
5. It will take you to Azure Education download portal

6. Select Software on the left side and then search Windows 10 Education in the search
box.
7. Select Windows 10 Education

8. Download by using the Download button on the bottom right side.


Save the file in the “ISO Files” folder.

1.2- Creating VM: W_VM1

1. At your host machine, click the Start button and type VMware Workstation
and from the search results, click VMware Workstation Pro.
2. Click on either Create a New Virtual Machine
3. Select Typical (recommended) and click Next.
4. Choose the I will install the operating system later option and click Next.
5. Select Microsoft Windows as the guest OS and choose the correct Windows
Server version, Windows 10 x64 in our case. Click Next.
6. In the text box for Virtual machine name enter:
“W_VM1-” +your initials + last four digits of your student ID (e.g. W_VM1-
NH0000). In the rest of the instruction, the machine will be referred as W_VM1.
Make sure you create a folder preferably with the same name as your virtual machine
and selected that new folder. Then click Next.

7. Leave the maximum disk size as 40GB. Choose between storing the disk as a
single file. The trade-off here is between file size and VM performance. Click
Next.
8. Review the virtual machine properties.
9. Create a new Word document named Lab01_ [Link]. You will paste
the screenshots into the new document, write your answers to the questions (if
any) in it and submit it. For answering any question, type the question number
and your answer.
10. Take a full screen screenshot showing the virtual machine’s properties (and VM
name, host machine’s system clock etc.) and paste it into your
Lab01_worksheet.docx file.
11. Click on Finish.

1.3 Installing Windows 10: W_VM1


1. On the home screen for the VM you just created, click on CD/DVD(SATA)
under Devices. Then select Use ISO image file and browse to the Windows 10
iso file. Click OK.

2. Power on the virtual machine. Click inside the Virtual Machine as soon as it
powers up to start the installation process. If you lose the mouse pointer, press
Ctrl + Alt to get the mouse pointer back to the host machine.

3. At the Windows Setup Language Selection Screen click Next.

4. Click on Install Now.

5. Click on “I don’t have a product key”

6. Select Windows 10 Education and Click Next

7. Check I accept the license terms and click Next


8. Select Custom: Install Windows only (Advanced)

9. Click on Next.

10. Installation will progress

11. After installation completes, it will automatically restart.


12. Select Country (Canada) and click on Yes.

13. Select “US” keyboard layout and click on Yes.


14. Click on Skip for the end keyboard laout.

15. click on Domain join intead.

Type in your lastname and click on Next.

16. Type Pa$$w0rd for the password and click Next

17. Confirm password by typing Pa$$w0rd and click Next.


18. Select a questions and type in its answers (so that you can remember those
answers if asked) and click Next. You need to answer 3 questions.

19. In the next 3 steps select No


20. In the next steps select Send Required diagnostic data and click on Accept.

21. In the next 4 steps select No


22. For Cortana help, select Not now.

23. It will take few more minutes.

24. Once finished, it will show Windows 10 Desktop.

25. Right-click the Start screen thumbnail that appears there and choose System. It
will open About page of the computer.
26. Take a full screen screenshot of showing the About screen (and VM name, host
machine’s system clock etc.) and paste it into your Lab01_worksheet.docx file

1.4 Installing VMWare Tools


1. From the VMware’s VM menu select Install VMware Tools
2. Open File explorer and open DVD Drive
3. Double click on [Link]. When prompted, select Yes. It will start the installation wizard.
4. Click Next.
5. Click Install. When the installation is complete, click Finish. At the restart prompt, click on
Yes. The computer will restart.
6. After the computer restarted, click on Ctrl+Alt+Del button to login.

7. In the password box type Pa$$w0rd and press the Enter key.
8. After login, it will show the desktop.
9. Right-click the Start button and choose System.
10. Take a full screen screenshot showing the System window (and VM name, host
machine’s system clock etc.) and paste it into your Lab01_worksheet.docx file

1.5 Adding a Network Card


1. Make sure W_VM1 is shut down.
2. Right-click W_VM1 and choose Settings.
3. In the Settings window, with Add Hardware already selected, click Network Adapter, and
then click the Add button.
4. To close the Settings window, click OK.

1.6 Changing Machine Specification


1. Right-click W_VM1 and choose Settings.
2. Increase memory by 4GB
3. Increase HDD by 20 GB
4. Increase processor by 2 core
5. Take a full screen screenshot showing the new configuration of the VM and paste it into
your Lab01_worksheet.docx file.

Submit Lab01_worksheet.docx (with 4 screenshots and your answers to the questions, if


any) into the dropbox.
