Fashion: Yes YOU can...
…clash your prints. Joanne Toolan explains how
From polka dots to florals, prints are where it’s at this season – piled on and played with. That’s right, mixing up your prints is the way to wear them and here are some pointers for getting the right tension between patterns and proportions… Mixing vertical with horizontal stripes looks chic (you can even change up the colours – keep to a basic monochrome but add in a classic red or navy blue). With polka dots your easy go-to is to pair larger spots with smaller ones – preferably on your top half – and, if you’re feeling brave, switch up the colours. The same applies to tartans and windowpane checks: keep things tonal but have fun pairing different sizes. When mixing up your florals, pick a colour to tie the two prints together and play with the size of blooms. Fashion has long been advocating a mixed floral on summer dresses and it feels much fresher than a simple ditsy print. If you need inspiration, look to the likes of designers such as Preen and Rixo.
1. Spot the difference with clashing colours and similar prints. 2. One dress, four prints: toning colours pull this together. 3. Size matters here: keep small checks up top for a flattering mix
