  • CCTV sparks renewed warnings about safety

Heartstopping CCTV has emerged of a commuter's dice with death after falling off a platform in front of an approaching train.

The man miraculously survived and managed to walk away unscathed, thanks to the quick thinking of the train driver, who slammed on the emergency brakes in time.

The terrifying ordeal unfolded in front of shocked commuters at St Albans station on the Sunbury train line in Melbourne's north-west on February 8.

The incident captured on the station's CCTV has sparked urgent warnings from Metro Trains about train safety ahead of the busy Easter holiday period.

The man is seen stumbling along the edge of the platform and suddenly take a heavy tumble onto the tracks as an approaching train arrives at the station.

Frantic commuters rush to try and stop the man from falling.

The driver of the approaching train manages to slam on the emergency brakes just in time as the man gets to his feet and jumps out of harm's out.

He scrambles to safety by climbing onto the other platform and then walks away.

Footage of the incident emerged weeks after a heroic Good Samaritan risked his own life to save a man who was standing marooned between the rail tracks at South Yarra station last month.

CCTV showed the bare-footed man standing motionless between two rail lines while commuters frantically gestured and called out to him from the platforms on either side.

A bystander jumps down from the platform onto the tracks, runs to the man standing between the tracks and pulls him towards the platform.
