Boy, 6, rushed to hospital after he is run over by a school bus... driven by his MOTHER

A six-year-old boy has been hospitalised after being hit by a school bus which was driven by his own mother.

The child, said to be called Tori, was crouching by a kerb outside his church school in Racine County, Wisconsin, when the bus pulled away without seeing him. 

His mother, who was driving the vehicle, felt a thump as she drove off. When she stopped to see what she had hit, she noticed her son lying in agony on the street.

It is thought Tori may have been crouching in the road while tying his shoelaces.

After the hysterical mother screamed for help, emergency services were called and the boy was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he is currently being treated for a broken collar bone.

Officials said he is in stable condition but may have to be operated on.

Witnesses who were outside the Union Grove Baptist Church at the time said serious tragedy was avoided after Tori's sister saw him crouching in the path of the bus.

She shouted at him to duck and he managed at first to avoid the bus before being caught by its back wheels.

Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling said: 'He was crouched down. It was unknown why he was crouched down, if he was tying his shoe perhaps.

'As the school bus began to roll, the school bus driver reports she felt a bump and immediately stopped the bus to find out that this was her own child.'

The school's principal, Lee Money, said children had immediately prayed for Tori's recovery and were immensely relieved to find out he had survived.

'For whatever reason children are children and one just got where he wasn't supposed to be,' he said.

'I guess my first response was praise the Lord.'

Another friend of the family told FOX6: 'He's an extremely lucky boy. My thoughts go out to the mother and this boy.'
