Do these girls look like 'frauds' to you? Twin sisters denied their drivers permits because the DMV could not tell them apart
- Alicia and Alicen Kennedy were denied learner's permits in Augusta, Georgia, on Thursday because the computer matched them as one person
- It registered one as a fraud as the other was entered in the database
- The DMV said it has never seen a situation like this before
- The girls were turned away pending an investigation into the matter
These identical twin sisters from Georgia were turned away from the Department of Motor Vehicles this week because the facial recognition computer could not tell the two apart.
Alicia and Alicen Kennedy excitedly went into the office in Augusta to get their learner's permits on Thursday.
However the pair left empty-handed after being told the imaging system recognized one of them as a 'fraud'.
'We gave her our paperwork but we didn't even get a chance to take the test because she kept saying something was wrong with the computer,' Alicia told WBJF.

Frauds?: Alicia and Alicen Kennedy excitedly went into the DMV office in Augusta, Georgia, to get their learner's permits, but were turned away when the imaging computer determined they were one person
The DMV said it had never heard of such a situation and investigating how to get the girls their permits
Can you tell them apart? Alicia (left) and Alicen (right) Kennedy are disappointed in not being able to get their learners permits on Thursday because of a problem with the facial recognition computer
Twin sister Alicen then added: 'I was listening to her conversation with the person on the phone and it said that one of us popped up as a fraud.'
The technology was developed to detect anyone trying to obtain a fake ID by crosschecking their face against the DMV database to see if there are any matches.
Unfortunately, the sisters, who are identical but have clear distinctions, were matching each other.
'The other lady came back and said that when we were taking our pictures it was picking up as saying that we were one person instead of two different people,' Alicia said.
Staff had to call headquarters to see what could be done about the situation.
Eventually the girls were turned away and told they would be informed what happens next after the issue is further investigated.
'I don't want to wait a whole other year': The twins are waiting to hear from the Department of Motor Vehicles
For the girls, it was an annoying outcome that has further delayed their hopes to get behind the wheel.
'We don’t look exactly alike so you would think the computer would pick up somewhat of a difference, but it can’t tell us apart,' Alicia said.
'I want my permit, I don’t want to wait a whole other year.'
The DMV told WJBF it had not heard of an incident like this happening before and is still investigating what can be done.
