Maybe the sun was getting to their heads! Racegoers don't hold back as they take to the track for another day of high (alcohol content) spirits in Melbourne

  • The 2015 Cox Plate was held on Saturday in Moonee Valley, Victoria
  • Models, beauty queens and high-profile WAGS lit up the Racecourse
  • Racegoers opted for some bizarre outfits and accessories
  • Sydney mare Winx claimed victory and won the $3 million prize
  • The 2040-metre race is the No.2 event on the spring racing calendar

Crowds who flocked to 2015 Cox Plate on Saturday were graced with sunny skies and glamorous guests dazzling the trackside.

Models, beauty queens and high-profile Australians lit up the Moonee Valley Racecourse, six kilometres north of Melbourne, and all-white ensembles appeared to be the order of the day.

But some of the high-spirited crowd opted for more interesting outfits - with the weird and wonderful ranging from storm troopers to men dressed as giant genatalia.

The 2040-metre race is Australia's leading weight for age event and broadly looked upon as the No.2 event on the spring racing calendar after the Melbourne Cup.

Sydney mare Winx and jockey Hugh Bowman claimed victory on the day, slamming the track record and blitzing the field to win the substantial $3 million prize.

Trackside, former Miss Universe contestant Rachel Finch led the front in the style stakes in a white-on-white lace dress and headpiece.

Other high profile stars enjoying a day at the races included former international cricket Legend Shane Warne and actor Axel Whitehead.

And while there was plenty of high fashion on display, novelty costumes also made an appearance, with one man honouring the forthcoming 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' film by dressing as a storm trooper.

And then there was the punter who decided to wear an interesting flesh-coloured, bizarrely-shaped hat and the one who was dressed in a yellow onesie carrying a rather adult plastic doll.

With warm weather and high-spirits across the course, many racegoers let their hair down with some cold beverages in the sun.

One pair of suavely-suited men took a break from the excitement and lay down in the middle of a crowd, while another woman was spotted appearing to shed tears beside a bed of flowers.

Some women were captured carrying their heels barefoot after the massive day of walking around the racecourse took its toll.

The biggest racing event of the year, the 2015 Melbourne Cup, is expected to draw a crowd of 100,000 plus on Tuesday, November 3.
