Surveillance video captures screams of 17-year-old girl fighting off kidnapper as he tries to drag her into his car

The Stockton Police Department has released surveillance video of a 17-year-old California girl screaming and fighting off a male kidnapper while he was attempting to drag her into his car. 

The suspect, who was described by police as a Hispanic or Asian man in his 20s, tried to drag the girl into his four-door car while she was on her way to McNair High School on Friday morning.

After the victim fought him off and ran toward her home, the man drove north on Lansdowne Drive.

Stockton Public Information Officer Joe Silva said the girl's reaction after the man grabbed her and attempted to put her in his car might have saved her life, according to Fox 40.

Silva said: 'Our victim did exactly what you are supposed to do.

'Make a lot of noise and fight off your assailant.'

The camera authorities obtained the footage from was set up at Tammy La's home.

Her son was sleeping during the kidnapping attempt and the victim's screams woke the boy up.

La said: 'It was bad. And he thought it was a dream.'
