Owner tricks cat into going for a ride down the stairs in a mission to capture a beam of light

Cats are cleverer than you might think ...at least some of them are!

One sneaky owner tricked his moggie into taking a slide down the staircase of his home by shining a laser beam onto a precariously positioned cardboard box.

The short clip begins with a curious black cat examining the tiny beam of light. 

Moments later a fellow feline arrives, seemingly eager to survey the scene.

What's all this about then? One cat, two cat. Both examine the little speck of light that appears to be darting around

Any ideas? The pair of moggies stare incessantly at the tiny speck as it moves about the cardboard box

Stand back guys! A third black cat appears on the scene determined to solve this mystery once and for all 

As the pair take a look at the mysterious and fast-moving object, a third kitty appears on the landing at the top of the stairs.

Without so much as a pause, the daring black cat jumps into the cardboard box, setting everything in motion.

Within milliseconds, the cute cat is skimming along the tops of the stairs and plummeting towards the bottom.

So powerful is the ride, the pet is forced into the box and is unable to remain upright.

It's all over within a second or two, at which point the puzzled moggie gets out, stopping to look behind him, wondering where the little spot of light got to, in all of the chaos!

I'm going! Half-a-second later, the cat is whizzing down the stairs. There's no turning back now!

Where's he gone? The speed is so fast, the cat is forced back into the box

Bump! Everything comes to a quick half and the cat makes a getaway, though perhaps not as soon as he'd have liked

What was all that about? The puzzled kitty turns around one final time just to check that the beam of light has well and truly vanished
