Is this the most Australian costume ever? Melbourne artist dresses as 'Sailor Goon' for Halloween with a mini skirt made from bags of cask wine

  • Melbourne based artist Suzanne created the costume out of 13 wine casks
  • The casks were donated to her by Reddit users after she made a plea
  • The costume garnered concern from several Protected Service Officers

Fifty years ago, a humble South Australian winemaker patented the goon bag-otherwise known as cask wine-which went on to become a hit the world over.

Over the weekend Melbourne based artist Suzanne decided to honour the iconic beverage with a Halloween costume comprised of 13 used goon bags.

Titled 'Sailor Goon' - a play on Japanese anime character Sailor Moon - the quirky costume has proved a big hit on social media, with scores of admirers praising the inventive design.

Suzanne told Buzzfeed she initially wanted it to be a multipurpose costume, but it ended up being a little too burdensome.

'Originally, I wanted to have it rigged so that people could pour themselves a glass of cheap wine from my skirt, but I don't think the licensed venue I was in would have appreciated that,' she said.

After posting a plea on Reddit, she soon received a flurry of the silver booze bags, which are held in place with duct tape, safety pins and hot glue.

While the costume drew praise from online admirers, it also garnered some unwanted attention from Protected Service Officers at Richmond station, who recorded Suzanna's name and address - albeit posing for photos afterwards.
