Melanie Gibbons, the MP for Holsworthy, has been moved to a safe house after a 56-year-old man allegedly threatened to kill her

An Australian MP has been moved to a safe house after a 56-year-old man allegedly threatened to kill her during a Liberal Party branch meeting.

Melanie Gibbons, the MP for Holsworthy in Sydney's south-west, applied for a restraining order after allegedly being targeted during a heated meeting of the Moorebank branch.

The man, who reportedly speaks English as a second language, was charged with intimidation after allegedly yelling 'I'll kill you' as guests arrived at the Barden Ridge golf club for the AGM in October. 

He was allegedly wearing a hat bearing the MP's name when he uttered the alleged threat, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Police said the 56-year-old man appeared at Liverpool local court on October 22.

Seven News reported today that Ms Gibbons has been moved to an undisclosed premises after allegedly being subjected to death threats.

Police could not comment on why Ms Gibbons was moved to another location on Monday.

A NSW Police spokesman said: 'A 56-year-old man was charged with intimidation and served with a provisional personal violence order.

'The man appeared at Liverpool local court on Tuesday October 20.'

The NSW Premier Mike Baird is reportedly aware of the threat and is offering Ms Gibbons all the support she needs.
