Two teenagers charged for spraying 'U.S.A.' and throwing eggs at a mosque as police chief brands the incident a hate crime

Two teenagers have been arrested in Massachusetts for allegedly vandalizing a mosque.
Police were investigating a report of malicious vandalism on the Islamic Center of Burlington on Sunday.
The letters ‘U.S.A.’ had been tagged on the property in red spray paint multiple times, and several eggs has been thrown at the building.
Cameron S. Capella and Derrik M. Demone, both 18, of Burlington were charged on Monday with malicious destruction of property over $250 and tagging property.

They were tracked down in the morning following several leads by the community late on Sunday night.
Burlington police chief Michael Kent branded the incident a ‘hate crime’.
He said: ‘We were able to quickly close this shameful case involving a hate crime in our community.
‘This behavior is not tolerated in our town and the suspects will be held responsible for their actions.’

Police had been called to the mosque and religious community center on Lexington St by a member who reported seeing graffiti and other damage at 1.45am on Sunday.
They found the graffiti and the remains of several smashed eggs that had apparently been thrown at the building.
The suspects had allegedly drove up to the building and remained in the area for at least 20 minutes before driving away.
Capella and Demone were held at the Burlington Police Department on Monday pending their arraignment at Woburn District Court.
