Explosions in the science lab, classroom selfies and terrible haircuts: Chemistry teacher's collection of photographs show four decades of life in London private school
- Collection by Andrew Szydlo includes images showing how Highgate School, north London, has evolved since 1975
- Among the images is the dramatic moment that plumes of smoke billow into the air following a wacky experiment
- Another shows three gruff-looking pupils posing in their athletics gear, while there is also a 37-year-old selfie
- Pictures have now been published in book called Schoolmaster's Diary, released to mark school's 450th anniversary
A chemistry teacher has released a nostalgic selection of photographs which document everyday life at a London private school over the past four decades.
From 37-year-old classroom selfies to black-and-white images featuring some rather dated haircuts, the collection by Andrew Szydlo, 66, includes dozens of images showing how Highgate School in north London has evolved since 1975.
Among the images - Mr Szydlo's favourite - is the dramatic moment that plumes of smoke and flames billow into the air in the science laboratory following a wacky chemistry experiment. The image was taken in 1978 - at a time before strict health and safety rules were enforced.
Another of the portraits shows three gruff-looking pupils posing in their athletics gear after being locked in a changing room by a rival school following a competition in 1976. Another striking image shows a pupil wearing a gas mask as he watched a violent chemical reaction during an outdoor learning class in 1980.
The pictures - which also include an amusing essay on discipline from the mid-70s - have now been published in a book called Schoolmaster's Diary, which has been released by the school to mark its 450th anniversary.
