Pregnant woman, 23, 'crashed her car while high on heroin and had to be revived with an overdose antidote after passenger was almost thrown from the vehicle'

A pregnant woman who was high on heroin when she crashed her car had to be revived by an overdose medication, police say.

Danielle Wisnieski, 26, of Kings Park, Long Island, almost threw passenger Randal Jernigan, 34, out of the car when she hit a tree and a fence before overturning on Wednesday night.

Wisnieski, who is 26 weeks' pregnant, was swerving all over the road before she crashed, a law enforcement source told Newsday.

At the scene, she was given a nasal spray of the drug Narcan by two officers while Jernigan was taken out of the car. 

It is used by EMTS as the first treatment when someone has had a drug overdose.  

The substance counteracts opiates by  knocking opioid molecules from the brainstem's nerve cells.

Its use is not believed to have harmed the fetus.  

She was airlifted to a nearby hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Jernigan was also taken to hospital.

Wisneiski was set to be arraigned on Thursday for a DUI. 

Sgt. Michael Alfano of the Fourth Precinct from Suffolk Police said: 'Somebody observed her swerving on the road before she crashed.

When asked whether the Narcan would have any side-effects on the baby, he said: 'I don't think it would be any worse than heroin.'
