Actress Kathy Burke has revealed how she fought off a ‘small fry’ mugger who tried to steal her money as she withdrew it from a cash machine.

The 51-year-old star of Kevin & Perry Go Large was approached at an ATM yesterday amid Christmas shopping crowds, but defiantly tweeted: ‘My genius is street wisdom.’

Burke, who is also known for her roles in Absolutely Fabulous and Gimme Gimme Gimme, later reassured concerned fans that she was ‘fine’ - but warned them to ‘be aware’.

She posted on Twitter yesterday at 2.45pm: ‘To the kid that just tried to rob me at the cash point - f*** you small fry, my genius is street wisdom.’

And following a series of concerned tweets from some of her 32,000 followers, she added: ‘I’m fine thanks guys - good warning for folks to be aware - it’s nuts out there cos of poxy Crimbo.’

Among those getting in touch to check on Burke - who lives in a £1.6million terraced house in Highbury, North London - were My Mad Fat Diary actress Sharon Rooney.

And, in a reference to her catchphrase from Harry Enfield And Chums, Twitter user Mark Williams got in touch with her to say: ‘Did you tell him you were “Considerablay richer than yow?”’

Meanwhile hair stylist Hannah Drynan told Burke: 'My dad saw his mum at a cash point and made her jump from behind as a joke before she saw him... She beat the s*** out of him.'

It is not known where the incident took place. A spokesman for Burke, who also appeared in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in 2011 and the 1998 film Elizabeth, declined to comment yesterday.
