Man who threatened to post nude photos of his 'occasional girlfriend' online unless she had sex with him is jailed for rape

A man has been sentenced to more than two years for rape after he threatened to distribute naked photos of his girlfriend unless she agreed to have sex with him.

The Supreme Court of Tasmania heard the pair had been in an on-again, off-again relationship, the Mecury reported.

In March this year, the man ordered the woman to go to his home, threatening to publish nude photos she had sent him via Facebook.

When the woman arrived at his home, she felt forced into having sex with him, Justice Shan Tennent said.

The man was found guilty of rape by a jury and Justice Tennent on Wednesday sentenced him to two years and nine months in prison.

He must serve half the sentence before he is eligible for parole.

The man has not been named to protect his victim’s identity.
