A father of three inspired by an Asda Christmas advert spent hours decking out his flash BMW with 1,000 fairy lights - no, really.

Michael Cope, 27, from Crewe, covered his BMW five series with 400 metres of multi-coloured fairy lights to put a smile on his children's faces.

The mammoth festive effort took him three and a half hours to finish and people from all over the country have got in touch asking to see his car.

He said: 'When I saw the Asda advert I thought I definitely had to do that this year, it was so cool.

'It took a long time to do but it's been worth it, children love it and it just seems to have gone mental since it's been on Facebook.

'I literally just did it for a laugh and because I've got three kids of my own I knew that they'd love it but now everyone's requesting to see it.

'Now I've done this though I feel like the pressure's on for next year, I'm already thinking about what I can do that's bigger and better than this.'

The operations supervisor claims he's decorated the inside of his house just as extravagantly as his car and can't wait for Christmas now.

He's already joked that he'll have to spend the festive period driving across the country to satisfy all of the messages he's had from people.
