Villagers living in a remote Fijian settlement have claimed that a disabled man who died in February's devastating Cyclone Winston is haunting them.

The body of Pauliasi Naivoa, 32, from Nayavutoka Village in the northern province of Ra, was found floating among debris after he was drowned by tidal surges during the tropical cyclone, according to the Fiji Times

His carer, Osea Balesavu, says he has since been woken up by Mr Naivoa's ghost during the night after feeling a 'heavy' pressure on his chest.

'At first I thought I was dreaming because he looked so real and so alive. All of a sudden he spoke to me and every time he opened his mouth, just one word came out, kakana [food],' Mr Balesavu said.

'When I opened my eyes, Pauliasi was standing in front of me,' Mr Balesavu said.

Although he informed Mr Naivoa to move onto the afterlife, Mr Balesavu said the 32-year-old has chosen to stick around.

Villagers claim their dogs can be heard barking throughout the night while standing around the mattress Mr Naivoa's used to sleep on.

A group of young men in the village said they have also been frightened after seeing Naivoa limping through their house asking for 'Kakana.'

Although he is yet to make another appearance, locals say they feel his presence at dinner time.
