Nurse who was allowed to continue working despite having the fictional hospital where ER was set on his CV now faces being struck off over abuse allegations
- Greig Ferguson of Stirlingshire was allowed to continue as nurse in 2013
- This was despite pretence of working at non-existent hospital in Chicago
- Ferguson was sacked after lying but found to be 'not a dishonest person'
- He will now appear before NMC again over 'physical intervention' claims
A British nurse who got a job after claiming he had worked in the fictional hospital from TV show ER faces being struck off over fresh allegations.
Greig Ferguson, 42, was allowed to continue as a nurse three years ago, despite his pretence of working at the non-existent County General Hospital in Chicago.
He was sacked after lying about the hospital, where actor George Clooney’s character Dr Doug Ross worked, but found to be ‘not a dishonest person’.

Ferguson, of Denny, Stirlingshire, is now set to appear before the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) again, following allegations over training he gave on ‘physical intervention’.
He allegedly advised those he was training to strike the Adam’s apples, smack the ears and bend the thumbs of those in their care displaying challenging behaviour.
It is said these methods were ‘inappropriate’ and he was dishonest, having no qualifications or training in physical intervention himself.
When Ferguson was given 150 hours’ community service at Portsmouth Crown Court in 2010, his barrister Robert Bryant compared him to Jeffrey Archer, who was jailed for perjury.

He said: ‘I know not whether your honour is, or was, ever a devotee of a certain Channel 4 drama, but the hospital on his CV in Chicago was the hospital starring in ER.

‘There can be few people who at one stage or another have not inflated or said something to increase their standing.
‘Whether that is with a work colleague, to impress a potential girlfriend or her parents, or perhaps to do what Jeffrey Archer did, to make themselves seem better – that’s all this man did.’
Ferguson was hired as an emergency nurse at St Mary’s Treatment Centre, Portsmouth, in 2008, after claiming to have worked at the County General.
He also claimed to have been a medic with the Royal Marines in Bosnia and the Gulf and to be a qualified doctor.
His pretence only came to light in October 2008, when a genuine doctor became suspicious.
He was sacked by Care UK for gross misconduct, later admitting two counts of fraud.
Three years ago, the NMC revealed Ferguson had continued to lie even after the court case.
It found he lied to a nursing agency, falsely claiming he had left his job to take up a new post, instead of admitting he had been dismissed.
At a hearing in Edinburgh, he said he had made up a persona to boost his self-esteem after suffering post-traumatic stress.

The panel ruled he was ‘not a dishonest person’ and allowed him to remain a nurse, imposing a three-year caution order.
But it has now emerged that Ferguson will appear before another NMC panel, in Edinburgh on May 16, which will consider his fitness to practise over the training programme believed to have taken place in 2013.
Ferguson also failed to accept an invitation from nursing agency H1 Healthcare to discuss concerns about the training. A company spokesman was unavailable to comment last night.
Ferguson returned to Scotland to work as a handyman and now lives in Stirlingshire.
A woman who came to the door of his home last night said he was away for work and declined to comment.
