Islamists continue to turn on each other as ISIS execute Al-Qaeda commander accused of organising assassinations in Syria

ISIS have executed an Al-Qaeda commander in Syria accusing him of being behind several assassination plots against the rival jihadi group. 

ISIS also posted several photos revealing the capture of an Assad regime soldier following fierce fighting near Palmyra.

The militant group reportedly seized close to 80% of the Al-Sha'er Gas fields close to the ancient archaeological site, which was recently re-captured by government forces.

Named as Abu Mujahid al-Baqai, he was accused of organising attempted assassinations on ISIS members in Yarmouk

The execution photos allegedly shows an al-Qaeda affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra fighter, who was captured in Damascus province. 

Dressed in a red jumpsuit and with a rag covering his eyes, the prisoner is shown kneeling in front of the two ISIS fighters.

Named as Abu Mujahid al-Baqai, he was accused of organising attempted assassinations on ISIS members in Yarmouk. 

The Jabhat al-Nusra prisoner was executed with a gunshot to the back of his head. Graphic closeup photographs were released of his body.

The news comes as David Cameron called for ISIS atrocities against religious and ethnic minorities to be recognised as genocide.

The Prime Minister told MPs he believed there is a 'very strong case' for labelling the terror group's actions as acts of genocide, adding he hopes they will be 'portrayed and spoken as such'.

MPs last month increased pressure on the Government to formally accept that the actions of ISIS against Yazidis, Christians and other ethnic and religious minorities in Iraq and Syria do constitute genocide.

They approved a non-binding motion, which also pressed for the matter to be referred to the UN Security Council, by 278 votes to zero.
