A young woman who was left for dead in a dumpster as a baby has had an emotional reunion with the 'guardian angel' who saved her.

As a newborn in 1995, Morgan Hill made the headlines when she was abandoned by her mother at a dumpster in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Two decades later and the 20-year-old has finally tracked down the man who saved her life when he found her among the trash.

Hill said she was overcome with emotion when she met her rescuer Gerald Rocky Hyatt.

'I broke into tears and the first thing I said was, "Thank you," Hill said during the emotional reunion.

'He said to me, "Baby girl, you are so loved."'

Hyatt had been dropping off the final load of garbage from the construction site he was working at in October, 1995, when he heard a whimper, NBC News reports.

When he looked inside the dumpster he found a white kitchen bag that had been tied. It appeared to be moving.

Hyatt rescued Hill and took her to a nearby hospital. She was later adopted into a loving family by Sandi Hill.

Hill says she had always known she was adopted growing up.

But she only discovered the full circumstances of her unusual birth a couple of years ago. Since then, she has been desperate to track down the man she calls her 'guardian angel' to thank him for saving her life.

Hil, who was overcome with emotion by the reunion, says she has been looking for Hyatt every since she learned of her unusual start in life

And last month, she was finally able to meet and thank Hyatt for rescuing her.

Her mother, Sandi Hill, who still has the clippings of the dumpster baby, is also grateful to Hyatt for giving her the daughter she always wanted.

'Rocky said God brought us together and he was so right,' she said.

Hyatt gave Hill a picture of himself holding her as a baby after he took her to hospital, and an angel pin he was awarded for the rescue 20 years ago.

'I've worn it every day since,' said Hill, who says she could never thank Hyatt enough for what he had done for her.

'He gave me a chance to live a second life. Because if he didn't find me, I would not be here to help others and show soon-to-be mothers that there are so many options out there and you don't have to throw your baby away.'
