This is the hilarious moment a man's shotgun recoiled and smashed him in the face as he fired.

A group of thrill-seekers, who had driven to a Texas woodland to let off some steam, decided to film each other firing their weapons.

But it seems that some need a bit more training as one amateur made a complete hash of his shot.

The man, wearing glasses, prepared to fire at a distant tree as he friends watched on.

He raised the shotgun but brought it in line with his face, bringing giggles from his compatriots who can tell what'll happen.

He then stared down the barrel as if firing a rifle and squeezed the trigger.

As he fired, the gun recoiled and the butt smashed him on the nose, knocking him backwards with great force. 

The man's friends laughed at him while he groaned in pain and one said: 'I told you man.'

Some commenters on LiveLeak, where the video was posted, suggested that it was a set up because nobody would be stupid enough to really make this mistake.

One named The Stig said: 'At first I was wondering why no one bothered to show him the correct way to hold a pistol-grip shotgun, then I realized that it was a total setup.' 

Another named Jack asked: 'Why would you shoot a shotgun holding it to your face?'

Others speculated at this was an effect of the widespread popularity of online video games. 

'This is what happens when you fire a live gun for the first time after 100's of hours playing call of duty,' said a commenter named Skullberry.
