Police are hunting for a gang who 'blew up' a cashpoint in Camden Market before fleeing the scene forcing the area into lockdown.

Detectives put a cordon in place following the incident in London for several hours this morning and later revealed that power tools had been used in the attempted heist.

Witnesses told MailOnline they heard a loud bang during the drama at the popular shopping area.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard confirmed an 'attempted robbery' had taken place but said that no arrests have been made so far.

There are not thought to have been any injuries during the incident.

Videos posted on Twitter show officers telling people to move away from the scene.

One witness wrote: 'Wanted to go for a run, whole of Camden road and the lock is closed. So many police and people scurrying.'

Another added: 'What just happened in Camden?!!!'
