Terrifying moment a father-of-two almost crashes into a kangaroo because he was blinded by another driver's high beam headlights

Father-of-two Peter Ibesi knows he is lucky to be alive after he was inches from slamming into a huge kangaroo on the highway.

The NSW motorist came perilously close to a serious accident when he was blinded a car coming the other way with it high beam headlights on.

Dashcam footage shot about 10pm last Thursday showed the other car approaching Mr Ibesi with its lights dazzlingly bright.

They were not turned off as he approached and he had no time to react when the kangaroo suddenly appeared in the middle of the road.

'I couldn't even tell you what type of car it was or what colour it was because the lights were so bright,' he told Seven News.

Mr Ibesi said he had no time at all to react was was lucky to only run over the marsupial's tail and not crash into it.

'I could have hit that kangaroo and we could have had two children with no father,' he said.

Police said drivers must turn off their high beams 200m away from other cars or risk a fine - or worse a potentially fatal accident.
