Tigerair has been announced as the cheapest airline in the world by a Melbourne based global travel search company.
Rome2rio scan 750,000 routes for air, rail, coach and ferry service from 4800 operators around the globe.
Results indicated that the average cost to fly with Tigerair was just $0.08/km whereas airfares travelling on Qantas and Virgin Australia are nearly twice as expensive.

The average fare charged by carrier Jetstar was $0.12 whereas Virgin Australia and Qantas totaled $0.15 per kilometre.
The second best went to Air Asia X at $0.09/km, ahead of Indonesia AirAsia at $0.11/km.
The company said it 'based its airline price comparison on economy-class airfares displayed by Rome2rio in January and February 2018,' Perth Now reported.
The priciest carriers were revealed to be in Nepal where Yeti Airlines charged $1.43/km and Buddha Air $1.56/km.

The fares are so costly due to the flying conditions, the type of aircraft and the small distances.
Rome2rio noted the biggest surprise was that Singapore based airline Scoot jumped dramatically in ratings from number 1 in 2016 to 31 in 2018.
Over the two years, Scoot's median price rocketed from $0.09/km to $0.12.
It was acknowledged however 'this may be due to the Tiger/Scoot merge in 2017 and the separation off of the Tiger brand in Australia, which now exists under different ownership.'
In March Tigerair announced it will feature a new style of slimline seating on their planes - ultimately making room for more seats and more paying passengers on board.
The design will add extra six seats on each cabin which according to the company won't compromise space or comfort for customers of the budget airline.
Commercial Director Andrew Maister said the update will enhance customer experience and comfort while in the skies.
