Two officers risk their lives by diving into icy waters after a stolen car was found sinking in a Sydney river

  • Vehicle was floating in the Parramatta River at around 10.30pm on Wednesday 
  • Duty officers jumped into freezing waters when they saw the car   
  • Car ploughed through the park over an embankment and into the river

Two duty police officers risked their lives and jumped into a freezing river as they spotted a sinking car. 

Police and emergency services were called to the scene after they received reports of a car that was driven through the park over an embankment and into the river Wednesday at 10:30pm.

Upon arrival, two officers risked their lives and entered the freezing water to assist, however, the vehicle had already become partially submerged.

The incident led to an extensive search of the river and the surrounding areas by the officers from Cumberland Police Area Command and Marine Area Command.

The officers found nothing after their search of the area for the missing driver.

The stolen car has been towed, and investigations are continuing.
